Plan for Emergencies
Make a Plan for Emergencies
As a resident of Alexandria, LA, you’re probably no stranger to storms. Maybe you’ve spent days without power and hours in evacuation gridlock. Still, it’s important to make a plan with your family for hurricane season, and for other emergencies too.
Take a moment to be sure you and your loved ones are on the same page about hurricane season.
- Talk about how you’ll evacuate, in case you need to.
- Include who will come with you, where you'll go, how you’ll get there, and what you’ll take with you. Don’t forget to include your family’s special needs and your pets in your plan. Read more about evacuation.
- Make a plan to shelter at home, too.
- Remember that you could lose power, so plan for at least 3 days worth of supplies. Read more about sheltering in place.
Plan for other emergencies that could happen too.
- Hurricanes aren't our only risk
- Talk about what to do if another emergency comes our way. Plan a meeting spot in case your family gets separated during an emergency. Pick the same person for everyone to call, text, or email. And remember it might be easier to reach someone who's out of town. Read more about making a plan on Ready.gov.
- Together, we'll be ready for whatever comes our way.
Tell your neighbors, church members, and co-workers about your plan. Encourage them to make one too.
