The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a tornado watch for Rapides Parish until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.
A strong line of thunderstorms is expected to move through Alexandria during the day. The line will come from Texas and move from west to east across central Louisiana.
Strong winds and heavy rain are the primnary threats as well as the possibility of tornadoes. The greatest threat is south of Alexandria, but severe storms can happen anywhere in the region.
The main line is expected to move through Alexandria between noon and 4 p.m. followed by much cooler weather. Winds are expected to remain higher than normal Thursday and into Friday.
